841 manatee deaths has been recorded by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission in 2021 so far. Over 50% of these deaths occurred in the Indian River Lagoon and surrounding areas and the majority of deaths in Brevard. The manatees are thought to have died through starvation as pollution affected seagrass. Manatees are already classified as threatened.
